James Cordell and Nicky Couceiro give a presentation to Richard Warburton and Guests in Tenby Masonic Hall

On Friday 10th November 2023, Richard Warburton Lodge of Education and Research was delighted to host a presentation given by James Cordell, Deputy Commissioner for St John Ambulance Cymru in West Wales and Nichola Couceiro, Head of Fund Raising, Communications and Engagement for St John Ambulance Cymru, West Wales.

Their interesting and informative talk focussed on all the different ways St John Ambulance Cymru serve their local communities. This includes offering a wide range of trainng courses, patient transport services, event cover and so much more.

Established in 1918 St John Ambulance Cymru is proud to say that their volunteers have been there for some of Wales’ toughest times – but also for some of the best. From supporting at the Aberfan disaster to being pitch side caring for supporters as Wales won their 10th Grand Slam.

St John Ambulance Cymru provided the first ambulance service for Wales. Now supported by over 4,000 volunteers they continue to deliver frontline services.

These include first aid treatment, training, and transport in the heart of Welsh communities. They are proud to work alongside our emergency services providing vital support when they need extra help. Every year we care for over 9,000 people who need us.

Over half of their volunteers are under the age of 18, and they're proud to provide opportunities and youth programmes for children and young people. Their programmes teach vital first aid skills, develop young people’s aspirations, and enhance their education. They create an environment where people can grow and learn from an early age, providing the perfect springboard for our healthcare professionals of the future.

We're also part of something much bigger and are an independent Priory of the Order of St John, a Royal Order of Chivalry.

Nicky and James joined the brethren for a fine Festive Board after the meeting. The proceeds fo the raffle (£180) were donated to St John Cymru.

The PGM had noticed in the summer that the St John Cymru Ambulances weren't equipped with TLC Teddies. Thanks to the West Wales TLC Coordinator, Steve Thurgood, the Province was able to donate 2 very big boxes of teddies for use across West Wales, with the Province of more to follow when the first batch are used up. Freemasons have donated a total of 3.5 million teddies since the scheme began.
