All anniversaries give us an opportunity to reflect on what has gone before and look towards the future. Whilst 50 years is a long time, it is at least a period to which we can all relate. When we look back through the history of Unity Chapter, we see the familiar names of friends old and new. It reminds us of our own masonic journeys. The debt of gratitude we owe to those who went before us and the responsibility we have, to those who will follow in the next 50 years.

It brings home to us the briefness of human life and the insignificance of human endeavour. We are reminded that we too shall quickly pass by, and others will step into our place.

The primary purpose at a 50th anniversary celebration is to render thanks to The Most High for “favours already received”. We also honour the memory of all those who played a part in the formation of the chapter. But not only them; we remember with gratitude all those who followed them and continued to build upon that foundation which had been so carefully laid.

The members of Unity Chapter can be proud of their achievements since 12th May 1971, when the Founders first resolved to form a new Chapter. The first big achievement was getting as far as the Consecration Meeting in May 1972. The hard work and commitment of those involved is clear to see in the minutes of the various meetings which took place prior to the Consecration.

The Consecration of a Chapter is just the start though. The members of Unity Chapter have worked hard to attract and retain both new and joining members for the last 50 years. The standard of ritual has always been excellent and perhaps most importantly the companionship and hospitality of the Chapter has always been of the highest order.

The high standards achieved have been consistently rewarded with Provincial appointments for members of the Chapter. Whilst serving the province during the last decade I have had the opportunity to get to know many members of Unity Chapter well, and I have visited frequently. I have absolutely no doubt that the Chapter will continue to go from strength to strength for the next 50 years.

I offer my own sincere congratulations, along with the congratulations of all the companions of West Wales to all the members of Unity Chapter on reaching your 50th birthday. I wish you all well for the future and I look forward to your company in the years ahead.
