For those fellow petrol heads in our midst, you may be interested to hear that progress is being made nationally on the formation of a National Masonic Vehicle Association.

The aim is to create a mechanism whereby like-minded Freemasons can be introduced to each other. Speaking to various brethren around our Province over the last couple of years, it is surprising just how many of us share this common interest.

This interest can develop in different ways, in different parts of the country. Some of the more densely populated provinces, where it is common practice to be a member of several craft lodges, are creating new special interest lodges. I understand that, the “Sir William Morris Lodge” nr 10003 in Oxfordshire, and the “Classic Motoring Lodge” nr 10004 in Sussex are to be consecrated next year – when normality returns.  Perhaps here in West Wales we could create an Association to provide for our interests – in much the same way as our Masonic Caravan Club and Golf Society operate.

The Caravan Club organise a series of trips in the summer months, often combining a visit to a lodge meeting or other masonic activity at their destination. This is something that we could consider. I am also aware of the Province of Monmouthshire who, in better times, organise a Classic Car show near Abergavenny on the second Saturday in July. They generally have over 200 classic cars attending and would be delighted to see our brethren drop in – with or without their classics. Such an association would aid the communication of such meetings.

For those of us who use Facebook, I see that they have recently set up a group page entitled “National Masonic Vehicle Association”. This is a closed group, but I would urge those brethren who have an interest in classic cars to join. As well as being notified of developments and activities, it could also be useful if you need a contact away from our patch. It could be that you have a problem and need advice,  you may need someone to cast a trusting eye over something you wish to buy online but don’t want to have a long wasted journey, or perhaps you may be seeking feedback regarding a specialist supplier.

As I said, this is a closed group, but I have joined it and there are some interesting posts developing. If any of you wish to join this Facebook group, then simply let me know so that I can vouch for you and arrange an invitation.
