Fishguard Local History Group

In February 2021, Strumble Lodge in Fishguard contributed £500 towards a website to celebrate the history of Fishguard and the local area.

Over the last 12 years the Fishguard Local History Group have met regularly to digitise photographs and local material with the ultimate aim of creating a website for all to enjoy. At last, this dream has become a reality.

The website is now available for anyone to view, comment on and even add their own photographs. This is an ongoing project with over four hundred images on the website already and new material being added almost daily. To visit the site, go to www.hanesabergwaun.org.uk.

The support received from Strumble Lodge back in February 2021 was key as it became the steppingstone to successful applications to the other grant making bodies, and £3,000 from the County Council’s Enhancing Pembrokeshire Fund gave the project the green light. Strumble Lodge celebrates its Centenary in May this year, and so its support of the website is particularly appropriate.

The website gives the older members of the community the opportunity to share and enjoy their memories. It is already attracting a great deal of interest and is helping to overcome some of the isolation that is felt over the winter months.

Although not an older member of the community (yet!), W Bro Eurig Evans Worshipful Master of Strumble Lodge is seen with members of the History Group reading an article on the website relating to the World War One experiences of his great uncle, Tom Evans, of Llanychaer.
