Bro. Glynne John

Bro. Glynne Henry Thomas John, you and I stand here today because you have decided to hang up the sword of Tyler of Aberystwyth Lodge and retire. A post you were first appointed to in 1968, 55 years ago, before many of the initiates you have attended on over those years were born, even before any Bro. here became a Mason.

You have been our Tyler during the reign of nine PGMS, served over fifty master’s and according to my estimation prepared around 180-200 candidates for initiation, an incredible achievement.

To be a member of the Craft for over 50 years is an amazing record in itself very few have equalled, not only have you well exceeded that record, but to have been in continues office in your Lodge for 55 years is surely something rarely if ever exceeded by any other Mason in this or any Province.

In your 55 years of service Bro. Glynne, I know you have many stories, and memories, far too many for me to do justice to them in a few words. Suffice it to say that all those you helped through their initiation meeting, some of whom went on to become distinguished Masons, will never forget your kind guidance though those first tentative steps in Freemasonry.

I was present a few years ago when you were presented with a glass word in appreciation of your 50 years of service as Tyler of this Lodge, you have decided it is time to hang up the real sword, we all regret but respect your decision and we thank you for your dedication and service to the Lodge, we wish you well in your retirement.

On a personal note, Bro. Glynne, I cannot tell you how much the privilege of making this presentation to such a distinguished Mason and friend means to me, it is an honour I consider well beyond any other honour I have received previously in Freemasonry.

Bro. Glynne, you are a legend in this Lodge and this Province, receive this gift of a set of miniature working tools as a small token of the gratitude of the members of Aberystwyth Lodge. You leave us with big boots to fill, your record of service dedication and reliability is and example to us all, something many may aspire to, and I doubt any will ever achieve in the future. May God grant you the health and strength to enjoy many years of happy retirement amongst us and with your family.

Brethren, as we all well know, Bro. Glynne is blessed with a welcoming smile, a jovial friendly personality, and a dedication to duty few will ever equal, Bro. Glynne, we will all miss your warm and sincere greetings at the door of the temple. Can I ask you then to please be upstanding….. we will salute our newly retired Bro. with three times three to the rhythm of the EA knocks, taking your time from me.
