A grant of £10,000 from West Wales Freemasons to Snap Playgroup Pembrokeshire will provide 50 spaces at the specialist playgroup over the next two years.

Snap Playgroup provides assessment, identification of need, and therapeutic support for children from birth to 3 years, who have been identified as having additional learning needs or complex needs.

Snap assesses individual needs and then, through early intervention, can offer both groups stay and play and one to one play therapy. They also offer advice and support for parents so they can help their children reach their full potential.

The playgroup runs 5 days a week for 2.5 hours a day, providing intervention for families free of charge. Families are referred by healthcare professionals who have identified a developmental delay requiring additional support. Being based at Withybush Hospital provides a strong link between the charity’s services and the wider support available to these families.

Last year the charity worked with 21 families and they have a further 13 on the waiting list. 100% of parents reported that there had been improvements to their child’s wellbeing thanks to the services of Snap.

The grant from West Wales Freemasons comes through the Masonic Charitable Foundation, which is funded by Freemasons, their families, and friends, from across England and Wales.

Cindy Jenkins of Snap Playgroup said, “We’re very grateful to West Wales Freemasons for their generous grant. It will help us continue to provide our essential services for the next two years. Early intervention makes a huge difference to longer term outcomes.”

James Ross, Head of West Wales Freemasons, said: “I’m very pleased we’ve been able to support Snap Playgroup Pembrokeshire with their hugely important work supporting children with additional needs. The one-to-one support which Snap can offer is vital for the safety and wellbeing of the children they support”
