The Association of Friends was formed in 1974 under the patronage of the Provincial Grand Masters of Provinces of South Wales, West Wales and Monmouthshire.
Every Mason within the three Provinces is actively encouraged to support the Association of Friends by becoming a Life Member of the Association by paying a 'one-off' payment of £10.00p. - It is suggested that each Lodge Worshipful Master encourages every new member of the Craft at the time of their Initiation to become ‘Life Members of the Association.
The drive to encourage membership from wives and associates of Masons to become ‘Life Members’ at the reduced rate of a one off fee of £5.00 is moving on a pace and it is hope that these new members will attend the AGM and Committee Meeting and make a valuable contribution to the Association.
The primary aims and objectives are to raise funds to provide a variety of amenities for the residents of the Albert Edward, Prince of Wales Court at Porthcawl, as well as organising visits of social and entertainment purposes to places of interest. The 'Friends' are also committed to providing transport for the residents in the form of an Ambulance/Minibus and a car so that they can attend a health appointment or just for recreational purposes, such as visits to the seafront. The Association of Friend's Executive Committee, which liaises closely with the Home Manager, holds its Annual General Meeting in September and a Committee Meeting in February at the Home, to which All Life Members are invited.
The funds to support the Friend’s activities are raised from three sources, namely: -
The Home’s new Alzheimer’s Treatment Unit, was piloted at our Home has been successful with many patient benefiting from the treatment, especially with the assistance of the new computer system provided by the ‘Friends’ and the treatment is being ‘rolled out’ throughout the other RMBI Home in England and Wales.
Every Lodge should strive to achieve 100% membership for which the Association will issue a certificate to be displayed within the respective Masonic Temple, a list of those lodges who have been awarded a certificate are shown below and to support the various fund raising events held within their area, thereby enabling the Association to maintain its excellent record of providing support for the residents of the Home.
