Deputy Grand Master visits Saint Padarn Lodge

Saint Padarn lodge was honoured by the presence of the Deputy Grand Master, Sir David Hugh Wootton at its recent triple passing degree ceremony. Saint Padarn has been a University scheme member since 2019 and is associated with the students and staff from Aberystwyth University.

Due to Covid and other UGLE commitments Sir David finally, at the third attempt, managed to visit Saint Padarn and even navigated train strike chaos on the day.

The passing degree saw three of our undergraduate students, Ioan Ashley, Vincent Coffee, and Adran Poulard (who returned from Northern Ireland especially for the ceremony) give the appropriate responses in a harmonious manner, it was such a delight when Sir David assisted the Worshipful Master Ian Lumby during the ceremony. Music within the lodge was provided by Bro. Ellis Hawthorn a graduate, and an original member of the scheme, and now the lodge organist.

The evening was concluded at a magnificent festive board, with over 60 brethren attending.  During the festivities the Provincial Grand Master W.Bro. James Ross presented Sir David with a small gift as a token of the esteem he is held in by the West Wales brethren.

Saint Padarn University scheme lodge have a dynamic student community and are now a registered student organisation within the student’s union. There are 3 potential candidates already applying for membership in the 2023/24 masonic year.
