The PGM with the new WM of Peter Drewett Daylight Lodge of Progress
W Bro Roy Whitfield
It is a great pleasure to have the opportunity this afternoon to present a 50 Year Certificate and Badge to your new Worshipful Master, Worshipful Brother Alfred Roy Whitfield.
W Bro Roy you were Initiated into the Astral Lodge no 3841 which meets in Grimsby in the Province of Lincolnshire on 19th December 1975. There is no record of you holding any offices in Lincolnshire, but the records weren’t computerised in those days.
Initially you were working as a pipe fitter, which took you all over the UK, but at the age of 30 you retrained and ended up as a youth and community worker for the armed forces. You spent 6 years working in West Germany and you were then posted to Berlin where you spent 12 years. I know that you continued your freemasonry in Germany.
You returned to Pembrokeshire in 1994 having commissioned the building of a bungalow in Haverfordwest.
Having finished your travels, you became a joining member of Old Priory Lodge in January 1999 and Peter Drewett Daylight Lodge of Progress in February 2020.
You have held all the progressive offices in Peter Drewett, culminating in your Installation this morning.
In the Province of West Wales, I appointed you as my first acting Provincial Grand Tyler in 2019 and I promoted you to Past Provincial Senior Grand Deacon at the Provincial meeting on Thursday.
You were Exalted into the Hwlffordd Chapter, in April 2001 and since 2009 you have served our chapter as Almoner, a job you have done with distinction.
In the Royal Arch Province, you were appointed to the rank of Past Provincial Grand Janitor in 2022.
W Bro Roy, in the real world, you were born on the 17th of April 1939, which means that you were 5 months old when the Second World War started.
You met your wife Anne at Pill Social Centre, and you were married in Bethesda Chapel, Haverfordwest on 23rd March 1961. You were 21 years old. You have two daughters, a granddaughter and two great granddaughters.
Roy, I am delighted to present you with your certificate and badge to mark this wonderful milestone in your masonic career and I wish you good health and the strength to continue to enjoy your freemasonry for many years to come.
