L to R, James Ross, Hefin Morgan Davies, Rhys Davies & Martin Marks
Cyfrinfa y Tair Sir (Lodge of the Three Counties), was consecrated in December 2021 and works the ceremonies in the Welsh Language. Generally, the lodge meets in Lampeter but on Monday 22nd June 2026 they had a Dispensation to hold their meeting in the Masonic Hall in Cardigan. Frenni Lodge had two candidates for Passing and as they are both first language Welsh speakers, they were keen to have the ceremony performed in Welsh.
A double ceremony can be a bit demanding anyway, but a double ceremony in Welsh is especially challenging even for first language Welsh speakers because they already know the ceremony in English. The brethren concerned are used to thinking in Welsh and translating to English but for the ceremony they must translate in the other direction. There were well over 50 brethren present to watch the Worshipful Master, Martin Marks and his team of Officers perform an excellent ceremony. The Provincial Grand Master, James Ross, who is not a Welsh speaker joked that he knew the tune, but not the words. Many congratulations to the candidates, Hefin Morgan Davies and Rhys Davies for playing their part in the ceremony.
The evening was tinged with a little sadness because after 20 years of service to many lodges the caterer Lynne Davies and her team have decided to hang up their aprons. The Worshipful Master presented the flowers, and the Provincial Grand Master presented a significant collection as a thank you for so much help over the years.
The girls summed up everyone’s feelings:
Our few words for Mamgus last night being part of the Lodge.
We would just like to say a few words on behalf of Lynne / Mamgu.
She has loved serving you all for the past 20 odd years, you've been her social life, her constant thought and kept her extremely busy and on her toes when it comes to numbers! She’s always been able to tell how many of you will be eating on the night even when she hasn't been exactly told she just knows. She knows when every meeting is and the name of that meeting and when talking about the next lodge, she tells us girls the name of it like we should know by now after being a part of her team for all these years. We have had so many laughs in the kitchen, stressing that we need more food, and just lots of fun over the years.
It truly is an end of an era for Lynne and her girls. We will miss the laughs, the banter we have and seeing you all more than once a week! We are all very sad for this chapter to end.
Thank you for keeping her busy for all these years. Now her times come to slow down a bit, we hope that you find a carter just as fun as we have been.
Won’t see you now but thank you.
