West Wales Rugby Lodge

As we are all aware, the ethos of the game of rugby has significant parallels with the core values of  freemasonry, in particular respect, integrity, cooperation, and of course, benevolence and charity. As such and in order to attract potential candidates for initiation into our fraternity, it has been established that there may be some scope for a ‘special interest’ Lodge with a remit that sits outside of what we currently do, namely the creation of a rugby Lodge.

Freemasonry has changed dramatically over the last 50 years becoming ever more open and accessible to men from all walks of life. Whilst staying true to the basic masonic principles, we hope this development will give a new and exciting approach to ensure that our members can enjoy their freemasonry (and their rugby) without compromising family or professional obligations through a shared enjoyment of sport.

As our name suggests, we will be a Rugby Lodge. Our membership will be made up of current and new Brethren from within the Craft Province of West Wales and to reach out to the substantial rugby community registered within the West Wales league structure. Whether you are a freemason who loves rugby, or a rugby enthusiast with an interest in freemasonry, this is an opportunity to be part of the formation of a new Lodge and help in continuing that process. Freemasonry and rugby go hand in hand with both being well structured, organised, disciplined and with a sense of belonging. We thus hope to project a positive image of freemasonry to our existing members, supporters, as well as their spouses, families and friends.

The new lodge will have a simple approach to its meetings which will hopefully accommodate the life-style, work commitments, and family demands of modern man. Ideas are slightly later start times to allow working men to attend meetings, alternative dining arrangements to the formal festive board, and social events which, whilst recognising our rugby heritage, would also appeal to all the family.
