Tenby Lodge BBQ

On a warm evening in August Tenby Lodge held their annual charity fund-raising BBQ at Ridgeway Park Resort, Manorbier which is owned by lodge Senior Warden Damian Brown.

Over 130 people attended, including a good number of Freemasons from Tenby and around the province. Several members of the Masonic Caravan Club of West Wales had brought their caravans to the park for the weekend on one of their rallies organized by Tony Trumper. Our Deputy Provincial Grand Master Ryland James and Past Deputy Grand Superintendent David Rayson came along with their wives, as did Mark Provincial Grand Master Gary Hicks.

It was an all-inclusive event so much fine food and drink were consumed, the meat being expertly barbecued by Tenby’s IPM David Marshall, ably assisted by Master Tony Upham and recent new member Andy Milne. As usual, several ladies had provided delicious salads…. thank you, ladies! Lodge member Jac Worley very generously provided ice creams from his van…. thanks, Jac!

In the Tug o’ War contest, a crack team (yes, I did say ‘crack’ team!) from Tenby Lodge challenged allcomers and after struggling a little at first, finally pulled their way to victory. The ladies then had a go and this time the challengers were victorious. This was followed by the Raffle Draw, organised brilliantly by Pat Crockford (aged 90 years) and the Auction of two high value items. The Raffle raised £600 and the Auction £400.

Lodge member Mike Jones and two fellow guitarists provided entertainment, and then new member Huw Johns took to the keyboard and sung some popular classics. Tenby Lodge is fortunate to have such talented members.

Many Tenby members and even a prospective new member had worked hard to prepare for the event, so it was truly a team effort, superbly organised by Lodge Master Tony Upham. In total, the Lodge had successfully gained support from sixteen different sponsors who had provided a bumper amount of quality food, wine and beer, and some excellent raffle/auction prizes. The event would not have been possible without their great generosity and Tenby Lodge is truly thankful for their support.

Biggest thanks of all go to Bro. Damian Brown for not only allowing the event to take place at his beautiful Park, but also for providing the furniture and equipment (and an auction prize!)

Total income from the event was over £4,400…. a massive boost to Tenby Lodge Charity Funds!
