W.Bro. Howard Prior of Cambrian Lodge is District Explorer Scout Commissioner for Pembrokeshire Scouts and is currently leading a team of volunteers in trying to raise sufficient funds to take 50 Scouts from across the county to the Kent International Jamboree in August.

Some £23,000 is required to cover the cost of transport, food, and fees for the one-week event so it is an ambitious project, but Howard is determined to succeed particularly as Scouts from the county have never attended a Jamboree.

Around 6,000 Scouts from around the world will be at the Jamboree so it provides a fantastic educational opportunity to interact with young people from various cultures and backgrounds, and foster an understanding of different faiths, beliefs, and customs.

It will be an exciting adventure which will allow our Scouts to engage in a range of activities and make friends and memories that will last a lifetime.

The Province of West Wales has pledged £3,000 for the event, subject to further checks, and two lodges have already made offers so Howard is off to a good start, but he would welcome contributions from any lodges in the Province. The values and principles of the Scouting Movement are like those of Freemasonry so there is potential for Scouts to become Masons in our Province in the future, particularly if it is evident that we are supporters of Scouting.

When W.Bro. Steve Thurgood, Tenby Lodge Charity Steward became aware of the Appeal he put it before the lodge members and a £500 contribution was duly pledged and ‘presented to Howard at a recent meeting.

Lodges that would like to contribute can contact Howard Prior at howard.p@pembrokeshirescouts.org.uk
