Masons and Motors

More than 25 “vehicles”, varying from motorcycles to a Ferrari and Aston Martin, met for a very casual and sociable “Masons & Motors” get together on Easter Sunday morning.

Whilst the majority joined us at Carmarthen, some just dropped in at the finish in Llandovery for a chat and a browse. All were very welcome. The joining venue of Starbucks in Carmarthen proved an ideal venue to congregate and meet the others. This proved so successful that we were some 15 minutes late before we left – but why rush away if you are in good company?

After a very simple run up the Towy Valley, generally using the picturesque but less well known south side of the river, we reconvened in the public car park at Llandovery, in the shadow of the Castle, with still ample time for a chat around the cars, and refreshments for those not lunching.

Some 30 of us had booked into the Castle Hotel at Llandovery, where a carvery lunch was on offer. This again proved an excellent venue. The Castle Hotel were most helpful, and reserved tables together for those in our party.

An extremely competitively priced, up to three course, carvery was enjoyed, allowing us all to socialise over lunch before returning home via our own preferred route.

Although the superb weather was obviously a massive bonus, the get-together seemed to have been well received by all. We suggested that perhaps we should hold three such get-togethers through the summer months – one in each of our three counties – and most agreed this would be a good idea. Alternative suggestions for future meetings are invited, and these already made include things such as selecting a suitable scenic open air venue, and we all bring our own picnic hampers, or an afternoon run out ending with a simple coffee and cake.

The Castle Hotel at Llandovery is also very well placed to attract similarly minded members from neighbouring Provinces. Although Easter commitments prevented the few neighbours I had spoken to from joining us, it would be nice if we could work something out with them for such future occasions.
