Members of The Mackworth Club gathered at Llys-y-frân Lake on a sunny Sunday afternoon to give something back to the people of Pembrokeshire.
It had been suggested to club members that the beautiful site at Llys-y-frân was part of Spring Clean Cymru 2025 Initiative and would appreciate volunteers to help with litter picking around the lake. Many members of the club recounted fond memories of the location with friends and family from years gone by and it was decided this would be the perfect opportunity to give something back to the community.
Members from St Teilo, Castlemartin and Narberth arrived, black bags in hand, to take on the litter of the lake! There was, however, an issue; there was hardly any litter! The facilities around the lake are fantastic, with a substantial number of bins, and the visitors seem happy to use them! Undeterred, the Club rolled up their sleeves and started hunting the sparse amounts of litter. We did find a little bit, which was picked up and put away, but credit and kudos must be given to the staff and the regular visitors for keeping the lake so clean and tidy.
After a packed lunch and Ice-lollies in the sun, Club Treasurer and Past Chairperson Ceri Phillips, recounted stories of fishing the lake with his dad many years ago. Then, after a final sweep of the playground for those last important items of litter before the journey home.
“As much as we enjoy our Lodge meetings, it’s always nice to meet under less formal circumstances to just enjoy each other’s company.” Said Keith Hancock of Castlemartin, as he narrowly dodged the tomato his daughter had just thrown at him!
