It is a great pleasure to be here with you this evening to present W Bro Keith Lumby with a certificate and badge to recognise 50 years faithful service to Craft freemasonry.
W Bro Keith, you were Initiated into Arabian Lodge No 882 in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, in the German Masonic Constitution on 26th November 1974 as evidenced by your German Grand Lodge Certificate issued on 2nd June 1976 confirming your initiation, passing and raising in Arabian Lodge No 882.
After completing your Army career and Government service and as a fluent Arabic speaker you sought employment as an engineer on the oil rigs in Saudi Arabia. It was here that you started your Masonic involvement.
This was quite a bold move as Freemasonry in Saudi Arabia was strictly forbidden and the journey by bus to and from your lodge in Dhahran was undertaken by the brethren purporting to be a band of musicians to explain their smart attire and cases. During the various police check points they had to ensure that there were actual musical instruments on the bus and somebody able to play them!
Whilst in Saudi Arabia you and your fellow Freemasons were founders of a new Lodge in Abqaig, in which you converted a room previously used by the Scouts Association into a Lodge room with a removable false wall so that the Masonic furniture could be hidden from sight after the meetings.
In the Province of West Wales, you joined St Padarn Lodge No 5472 on 17th November 2005, being proposed by W Bro Bob Williams and seconded by W Bro Sid Clench, two very distinguished Freemasons. You were installed as Master of the Lodge on 17th October 2013, a day I remember well as I attended as a newly appointed Assistant Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies.
You received Provincial appointment to Provincial Junior Grand Deacon in July 2019.
In the Holy Royal Arch you were Exalted into the Ystwyth Chapter No 1072 on 10th January 2008.
W Bro Keith, many congratulations on your loyal support to Freemasonry for over 50 years and it gives me much pleasure to present you with your certificate and badge. It is clear that you continue to enjoy your time with your brethren in Freemasonry and I do hope that this continues for many years to come. Please wear your badge with pride at future Masonic meetings.
