Pictured from left to right: E.Comp. James Ross (Grand Superintendent) and E. Comp. Robert Thomas
E. Comp. Robert, you have had a glittering masonic career.
You were Initiated into Unity Lodge on 3rd January 1978 by your proposer and Worshipful Master at the time, your brother-in-law, the late W Bro Geraint David. You went on to serve the lodge as Master in 1987. You are the current lodge secretary having been appointed in 2011 and you also held the office between 1995 and 2002, a total of 17 years so far. You have also held the office of Assistant Director of Ceremonies and in addition to being the lodge secretary, you are also the lodge Membership Officer.
You are also a member of Kensington Lodge of Installed Masters and have served that distinguished lodge as Secretary and as Senior Deacon.
You were first appointed to Provincial Rank in 1994 and you must have made a big impression, because in 1999 you were promoted to Past Provincial Junior Grand Warden. In 2014 you were promoted to Provincial Senior Grand Warden a position you filled with distinction. Those of us who were fortunate enough to be on your team remember the year very well. It might surprise you to know that the Deacons from 2014 have their own club and as the Assistant Secretary is next to the Deacons in the procession, they made me an honorary member!
In the Royal Arch, you were Exalted into Unity Chapter on 10th February 1981. You have served as Most Excellent Zerubbabel on two occasions, firstly in 1990 and again in 2018. You are currently Assistant Scribe Ezra.
In the Royal Arch Province, you were first appointed to Provincial Rank in 1992 and served the Province as Scribe Nehemiah in 2006 and as Third Provincial Grand Principal in 2016.
In Supreme Grand Chapter you were appointed to the Rank of Past Grand Standard Bearer in 2016.
E. Comp. Robert, In the real world you left Stradey School at 15 to become an Apprentice Fitter and Turner at Glanmor Foundry where you stayed until 1973 when you moved to Jefferson Chemicals where you remained until you retired in 2010.
You have been married to Helen for 53 years and have a daughter, Catherine and two Grandsons, Matthew, and Liam.
E. Comp. Robert you have been a loyal and faithful servant to your family, your employers and freemasonry. You and I have known each other for many years, and I am delighted to present you with this certificate and badge to recognise your 40 years’ service in the Royal Arch.
I hope you will wear the badge with pride for the next 10 years until we can present you with a 50-year badge.
