Presentation on Tuesday 8th February 2022 at Unity Chapter No. 6709 at Llanelli Masonic Hall
It is quite unusual to present two Long Service Awards on the same evening, especially when the Companions concerned have both had very long and distinguished masonic careers.
To have reached the milestone of 40 years’ service in the Royal Arch is a wonderful achievement for anyone and it is a shame that the pandemic has interfered with making these presentations as they became due.
The address by the Grand Superintendent reads as follows :-
E. Comp. Richie, you were Initiated into Unity Lodge on 3rd February 1976 and served the lodge as Master in 1996. You have served the lodge as Almoner and between 2002 and 2011 you were the lodge secretary. You have been a member of the Kensington Lodge of Installed Masters since 1997.
In Provincial Grand Lodge you were appointed to the Acting Rank of Provincial Junior Grand Deacon in 2003. You were promoted to Provincial Junior Grand Warden in 2011 and further promoted to the rank of Past Senior Grand Warden in 2012.
You were Exalted into Unity Chapter on 8th April 1980 and served as Most Excellent Zerubbabel in 2004.
In Provincial Grand Chapter you were appointed to the Rank of Past Sojourner in 2006. You were promoted to the rank of Past Provincial Grand Sword Bearer in 2014. In 2018 you were appointed as acting Provincial Grand Scribe Nehemiah.
E. Comp. Richie, in the real world you studied at Llanelli Junior and Senior Technical College. You served a 5-year apprenticeship in carpentry and joinery and have worked as a site manager on buildings throughout South Wales and beyond, including several years in different parts of South Africa. You were the Chief Clerk of Works at W.H.C.A. in Cardiff and went on to work in many of the hospitals in South Wales, spending your final 6 years at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Llantrisant.
You have a keen interest in Egyptology, and you somehow found the time to play rugby for Felinfoel too.
You have been married to Ann for 59 years. You have a son, Leighton and two grandchildren, Dylan, and Grace.
E. Comp. Richie, we have known each other for many years and although you served the Craft Province before I became an acting Provincial Officer, we did spend a year on the Royal Arch team together.
E. Comp. Richie you have been a loyal servant to Royal Arch Masonry, and you have fulfilled all your masonic commitments without detriment to yourself or connections. You are a fine example to us all and I am delighted I am the one to present you with this certificate and badge to mark 40 years loyal service to Royal Arch Masonry. I look forward to being present when you receive your 50-year certificate and badge.
Many congratulations
