Dr John B Lloyd Bursary 2022

 

Cerys Viner is the recipient of the 2022 Dr John B Lloyd Masonic Bursary Award. Michael Eckley, Assistant to the Head of West Wales Freemasons presented Cerys with a cheque for £1500 and a certificate to commemorate the award on Thursday 20th October 2022 at Aberystwyth University.

 

The Provincial Grand Charity of the Masonic Province of West Wales annually give the award to encourage worthy students to further their education and Cerys was the outstanding candidate selected by the awards Committee headed by Dr Ruth Wonfor (a previous recipient of the bursary).

 

Cerys is studying for an M.Res. (Masters in Research) in Bio Sciences at the newly formed Faculty of Earth and Life Sciences a part of The Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences (IBERS) at Aberystwyth University. The small group of West Wales Masons present at the presentation ceremony were greeted warmly by the Associate Dean of the Faculty, Professor Joanne Hamilton.

 

Cerys achieved a BSc (Hons) Biology earlier this year from Aberystwyth University gaining a First-Class Honours Award.

 

Cerys’ objective in her research is to assess the status of a range of coastal flora that reside in varying regions of Welsh coastlines similar to salt marshes and sand dunes using statistical software and Geographic Information Systems to provide insight in where particular species of flora may inhabit. Her supervisor for the research will be Dr Gemma Beatty.

 

The Province of West Wales wishes Cerys every success in her future studies.
