Pictured are L to R: Tenby claiming the gavel from St Davids and Castlemartin claiming it back
Monday the 24th of February ‘25, saw 16 Brethren of Castlemartin Lodge No.1748, mount up and travel to Tenby with one thing on their mind….retrieving the Travelling Gavel.
Castlemartin held the Gavel in December ‘24, claiming it from Frenni Lodge in Cardigan, until it was sent packing in January of this year to neighbouring Lodge - St David’s 366 of Milford Haven.
They didn’t have it long though as Tenby soon swept in and claimed it - after narrowly missing out on the prize to St David’s weeks before.
Castlemartin, not having recovered from the saddening loss of the Gavel in January were determined to bring it back to their Lodge once more… and they did just that!
Enjoying fantastic Hospitality and a special double Ceremony of Initiation at Tenby, the whole evening was a great success.
The Travelling Gavel promotes one of Freemasonry’s greatest attributes - visiting other Lodges.
Castlemartin like many other Lodges around the Globe has found it hard to recover after the pandemic, seeing membership numbers slow and even drop. This has all changed in the last 24months where
Castlemartin has seen fantastic numbers joining their Lodge and with it - a newfound love of visiting their Provincial counterparts. Castlemartin is all inclusive and makes sure that all members are
included and aware of visiting, using WhatsApp Groups, telephone calls and emails. They all share lifts and make sure they fully commit to the visits, always attending the Festive Boards to chat with
other brethren after the ceremonies.
